Hello everyone!!
As I had told in my previous blog that the
immediate reason to join blogging is to give some tips regarding upcoming ASRB
NET exams.
Here it is! But I would not be telling how to
clear it, rather I would be telling how I did it because what may be a strategy
for me might not suit someone else. Before that, I want to assure you all that
NET questions are not at all tough, so there is no need to get panic or be
afraid from it. I also want to tell you the fact that during my NET exams, I
used to be extremely busy because of my MSc dissertation (Usually 7am to 8 pm
i.e. nearly 13 hours of tiresome work) . So I got hardly 1 week to prepare for
it. And what I did in that 1 week is as follows:
1. Learn as much standard
values as possible:
Yes, all the ICAR exams have one
trend in common, they have a significant number of questions asking standard
values like %Fat, %TSS, Headspace, Maximum permissible amount, etc.
Where to find it:
Strictly follow FSSAI Regulations. The standards given in Books like Sukumar De or Girdharilal or Srivastava have become outdated now.
2. Strictly follow
Previous year question papers:
There is a high repetition rate in the
questions. If your upcoming question paper is the "constitution of
India" then the previous year questions are like "Govt. of India Act,
1935" (If you are interested in polity, you must have got it).
3. Have an idea of
all the unit less numbers in Food Engineering:
Unit less numbers like Reynolds number, Sherwood
number, etc are high frequency questions. Look after all of them in
Introduction to Food Engineering by Singh and Pal.
4. Food Microbiology:
Try to learn important spoilage causing
microorganisms in various food products like, Milk, Meat, Eggs, Fish,
etc.
Also, learn the beneficial microorganisms present
in various food products which cause their fermentation especially fermented
dairy products and alcoholic beverages. you can refer Food Microbiology by Frazier for this. Also, have a look at the D, Z and F concepts.
Question as simple as their units are asked.
5. Food chemistry:
Learn about some important food additives and the indicator enzymes and
microbes for various processing techniques, like indicator microbe for
pasteurization or indicator enzymes for blanching. Also have some brief knowledge
about the various macro and micro nutrients, active components of various
spices, etc. You can refer the Food Chemistry and Food Microbiology section of
Objective Food Science by Sanjeev Sharma, it is very relevant and informative
In addition to this, certain GK like questions, like, location of DFRL, some food safety topics like ISO 22000, OHSAS and similar one are also asked, so get an idea of that before going to the exam. you can also download some apps like Food Tech App or Maniavarsity for fun based learning.
That's all!!!
Update (17.09.2020):
Me and my friend Arun Kumar Gupta, have started an initiative to put 5 #FoodTech questions on twitter daily. The questions are relevant to Entrance/NET/JRF/FSO/FSSAI/ICAR Exams. Please do have a look and share among your friends too!
Best wishes!
